Rivian was founded in 2009 by RJ Scaringe, a former MIT PhD student, in Florida. It took 12 years to move from idea to product delivery. Amazon invested $700M in 2019 and placed an order for 100,000 EV delivery vans—the largest in commercial EV history. Rivian's 2021 IPO reached a $100B valuation before delivering a single vehicle. It currently mass-produces the R1T, R1S, and Amazon EDV.
