Uniswap was created by Hayden Adams, an engineer who was laid off from Siemens in 2017. He had no prior blockchain coding experience, but a friend encouraged him to build a DEX based on a concept by Vitalik Buterin. The result was Uniswap—a DEX that has processed over $3.45 trillion in cumulative volume.

Hayden Adams once snuck into the Deconomy 2018 conference without a ticket to present Uniswap to Vitalik Buterin. Though he was kicked out of the event, he ran into his friend Karl Floersch, who introduced him to Vitalik. A few months later, Hayden received a $100K grant from the Ethereum Foundation.
